I highly recommend this motorcycle shop to everyone. They also have a great selection of bike gear. I bought a pair of heated gloves that Dave installed for me and could not be more satisfied.

Most small shops have one or two specialties. Everything else will be done poorly or not at all. My previous shop in Seattle was expert in sports bikes but made some big mistakes and dubious recommendations about other things. I once ended up stranded in the middle of Washington wilderness because they improperly installed a tire tube. Because of this, I used to do my own work but I am too busy these days. I recently moved to Santa Cruz and needed work done on both of my bikes: a DRZ400 single cylinder dual sport, and a VFR800 V4 sport touring street bike - very different ends of the motorcycle world. Bob has encyclopedic knowledge of both bikes, including strengths and weaknesses, the wide spectrum of aftermarket parts and mods, safety, torque specifications, suspension, riding technique, gear, and more. He and Laura will cheerfully share their knowledge and I would love to talk shop with them all day if I knew they didn't have work to do.
I ended up having a completely custom suspension installed and set up on my VFR800, plus new tires for both bikes. Bob and Laura treated my bikes as I would, inspecting parts, pivot points, bearings, etc., in the vicinity of the work being done. They made no-pressure, sensible recommendations on what to leave as-is and what we should replace.
Most things were in good order, so they applied fresh grease and made recommendations for things to keep an eye on. Even details such as the angle of the clip-on bars were checked and adjusted. Both bikes have aftermarket parts, luggage, farkles, etc., for the way I use them and I've had other shops get annoyed, refuse to touch anything aftermarket, or want me to remove things before they would perform any service. Not here - no fuss, no hassle, just work done right.
I love my bikes and I used to dread taking them to other shops, for the downtime and also they rushed way they'd be treated. I honestly look forward to the next time I need to bring one of them to Davis Moto Works.
